Evidence of God Working Behind the Scenes
Something happened this past Friday that we had never before encountered here at the academy. Our major website was hacked and became unavailable for visitors. I received notice of this issue and we raced into action. One of the benefits of a lean, small company like ours is its resilience to pivot and go.
We initially contacted our tech expert in Serbia but he was not able to help as he was out of the country. So... back to the drawing board. We had to quickly find a qualified freelancer.
Researching security experts among freelancers, I learned that most of those who work in this field are in Middle Eastern countries that are known to be unfriendly toward Christians. This made a difficult, urgent task even more challenging.
I prayed and knew I had to trust God with the outcome. This is His academy after all. I posted the job and reviewed 20-some applications from freelancers anxious to work. When hiring a new team member it is important to read their previous reviews and ratings as well as depth and breadth of experience.
I finally hired Syeda, a woman from Pakistan. Time was pressing me and a decision had to be made. As the process continued, we communicated via Skype to answer her questions, give her access to sensitive areas and get her all the information needed to complete the job.
The process began around 6 pm and at each step, we sent up more prayers. According to Syeda, there had been major damage. Our team and family were all praying through this. It took her about 6 hours and finally she got the entire website restored by midnight our time. (It was by then, 9 am in Pakistan!)
We all breathed a sigh of relief. We have now added multiple layers of security so that another attack is very unlikely. Syeda thanked me for trusting her. I learned then she had also added security software to our system that secures and monitors our website 24-7. Job well done!
I always do a debrief interview with each of my new team members when a job ends, to learn more about what they do, what they enjoy and future work possibilities... since our work is ongoing.
This time in my conversation with Syeda, I discovered how God was not only blessing us with her skills, but was blessing her with the income. Syeda and her husband rely only on freelance income because they are largely homebound. Her husband was an accomplished marine engineer. Some time ago he was shot, sustaining injuries that left him a paraplegic. So he must stay home and she must be there to care for him. They both do whatever they can as freelancers online to earn money to live.
We talked by Skype for a little while longer and as the call ended I sent her and her husband blessings and she wrote back. "May God bless you and your family". By then I had tears in my eyes and even in the retelling of this story, my eyes have gotten moist.
All this to say that so often we are focused on ourselves and our own needs and it's easy to forget God does not just bless one party but both in a relationship He ordains.
I had been worried about who I would find, and God sent one of his own angels to help from across the globe. Syeda did a great job, was very pleasant to work with and will be considered for future jobs.
It is so humbling to see glimpses of evidence that God was working behind the scenes on our behalf, and Syeda’s behalf.
There were other lessons as well.
I was reminded of the importance of walking our talk. We each need to do everything in our power to act with integrity, say what we mean and do what we say.
Each interaction is an opportunity to share the love of God with others. The way we live and the joy in our heart will radiate to the world around us.
As coaches and counselors, our lives should reflect these principles since many look on us as role models. If we do this, there will be a ripple effect in the world with lives changed and God glorified."Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations." ~ Deuteronomy 7:9
